Don’t Forget Your Mental Health
Starting university is exciting and there are so many different and new things competing for your attention. Though it may not be the intention, it is common that sometimes your mental health fall by the waste side. A bit of anxiety can be a good thing; however, it can be useful to know when it may be time to ask for help.
Stress
Stress is what happens to our body when the demand on it gets overloaded. We all have stresses in our daily lives, that is completely normal and can be managed to keep a work/life balance. It is when stresses mount up that it can become overwhelming. Being stressed also has a effect on learning. Though every person experiences stress differently, here are some common symtoms:
Feeling nervous, scared, or worried
Irritability and agitation
Muscle tension
Tearfulness
Feeling nauseous
Panicing
Racing or repetitive thoughts (e.g. “I can’t do this” or “I can’t handle the way I feel”)
Sleep problems
Difficulty concentrating
Changes in appetite
Procrastinating
Interpersonal problems
